Parental Leave increases to 18 weeks

With effect from this Friday, 8th March, parents will be entitled to 18 weeks parental leave per child. This is an increase from 13 weeks and may be taken up to the child's 5th birthday (or 18th birthday if the child is disabled).

"Mr Selfridge" - a lesson in equality at work

How fascinating is the contrast between the entrepreneurial American and the staid English traditionalists in the new series of “Mr Selfridge”. Even more amusing is to watch through the eyes of my two teenage daughters, affronted by the notion that shop girls who got married would have to leave! Thankfully, things have moved on somewhat since the early 1900s, although it took until 1975 for the Sex Discrimination Act to come into being.
