National Minimum Wage Increase
The National Minimum Wage is set to rise on the 1st October 2014 with more than 1 million people going to see their pay rise by as much as £355 a year.
Health & Safety Inspections on the Increase!

Since the Health & Safety Executive introduced a fee for their investigations, the number of inspections has increased by 6%. If the HSE has a cause to investigate, they will levy at a fee of £124 per hour (£992 per day) for visits. These charges are on top of any other costs that may be incurred as a result of an incident.

Fee for Intervention (FFI) is a charge to any business that breaks Health and Safety Laws. Business owners must pay the HSE at the rate of £124 per hour. This time includes the investigation, conviction and enforcement of the act.

An employment tribunal has ruled that the BBC unfairly dismissed its former Technology Chief, John Linwood, following the failure of the Digital Media Initiative project. The failure of the project was not in doubt, the corporation spent £98.4 million to end the use of video tape and was lambasted by the Commons Public Accounts Committee.

Surveys on absence rates conducted by XpertHR shows a steady decline in the number of days taken as sick leave by employees. Figures show a reduction of more than 2 days with the average median falling from 7.4 a year per employee in 2007, to 5.2 in 2013.
